How the calculation works

1. Purity factor

Today's 24K rate is multiplied by a purity factor — 0.916 for 22K, 0.750 for 18K, 0.583 for 14K — to get the effective rate per gram for your gold.

2. Making charges

Most jewellers charge making either as a percentage of the gold value (typical: 8–25%) or as a flat ₹/g. Heavier or hand-crafted pieces usually cost more.

3. Wastage

An optional charge for the gold lost during crafting. Many modern brands now include this inside making charges and quote 0% wastage.

4. GST & Hallmark

GST is 3% on (gold + making + wastage). BIS hallmarking fee is a fixed ₹45 per article (you can edit it if your jeweller charges differently).

Frequently Asked Questions

Final price = (Today's 24K rate × purity factor × weight in grams) + Making charges + Wastage + GST 3% on (gold + making) + Hallmarking fee. This calculator does all of that for you and shows the breakdown.
24K is pure gold (99.9%), used for coins and bars. 22K (91.6%) is alloyed with metals like copper and silver for hardness — the standard for Indian jewellery. 18K (75%) is used for fine work and stone-set pieces. 14K (58.3%) is harder still, ideal for daily-wear and lighter on the pocket.
1 tola = 11.664 grams. A pavan (used in Kerala/Tamil Nadu) is 8 grams. This calculator converts your input automatically — just pick the unit.
Yes. As of 2026, GST is 3% on the total value of gold plus making charges. Some jewellers split it as 3% on gold and 5% on making — but the prevailing market practice and what this calculator uses by default is a flat 3% on the combined gold + making + wastage.
